For the first time in India, an Institute initiated the TOBACCO MARSHAL program on the campus. Selected faculties and students who are Wardens or in charge of hostels and departments and members of the Ek Prays club at KIET were empowered as TOBACCO MARSHALs.
The vision of Director Dr. A.Garg was ably promoted by Prof. Dr. Pravesh Singh and the much-needed empowered tobacco MARSHAL are being created to make the future of student secure and respectable. The program is supported by Dr. Anil Ahlawat, Dean Academy, and Dr. Satish Kumar, Dean SW.
NEW TOBACCO MARSHAL At KIET
Prof. Dr. Pravesh Singh – The first TOBACCO MARSHAL of India initiated the activities at KIET by first establishing the Club – Ek Prayas at the campus. With that multiple activities were done on campus. The need for empowering the club members was felt. Thus, with ICanCaRe Academy the TOBACCO MARSHAL training was done.
30 candidates took training.
Dr. Pawan Gupta M.Ch., Dr. Neeta Kumar, Mrs. Sonal Bhatia, and Mrs. Minaxi Agrawal were represented by ICanCaRe to share knowledge and experience.
Mrs. Sonal Bhatia, the leader of Tobacco MARSHAL, feels that women are the worst sufferers due to tobacco use in society. She successfully made 1000 women tobacco MARSHALs in 5 months, of which 550 girls from villages were trained as MINI Tobacco MARSHALs.
Mrs. Sonal Bhatia – Need of Tobacco MARSHAL in society
Academic Director Dr. Ahlawat said, “Thank you for the insightful workshop. Our students and staff are all excited to start tobacco control on the campus and hopefully we would make a definite impact on the future of our students”.
4 hours of intensive discussion covered the 8R aspects of Tobacco and empowered each of the participants as TOBACCO MARSHALs.
The most important focus of the session was how to handle a person who is taking tobacco- the conversation that needs to follow with the person engages and guides them towards making him tobacco-free.
Emphasis was also on protecting self and family, especially daughters so that they do not end up with a tobacco user in life getting tormented for their entire life.
Tobacco MARSHALS – they have a major role as influencers to: are essential for tobacco control
§ SAVE youth initiation (BE SMART DO NOT START)
